Slow Loading Icons

Do you start up Windows XP and see icons load on your desktop one at a time? Here is a fix that will solve this very annoying problem!

First we need you to change a setting in Windows XP that allows you to view hidden system files.

Double click "My Computer" on your desktop and you should see screen(s) similar to the ones below...

Click "Tools", "Folder Options" and your window should now look like this...

Click the "View" tab and your window will look like this...

Click the radio button that says "Show hidden files and folders" and Click "OK". In the future, if you want to have system files hidden, click the radio button called "Do not show hidden files and folders".

You are now ready to follow this guide.

Double-click "My Computer" and double-click the hard drive icon. You should see a window like this...

Double-click the folder named "Documents and Settings" and your window will look like this...

Open the folder named after your Windows username. In our case it is "ourtweaks.com", but for you it could be "Bill" or "Bob". This should lead to the following window...

Double-click the folder named "Local Settings" and your window should look similar to this...

Open the folder named "Application Data" and your window should look like this...

All that's left to do is delete the file called "IconCache.db" and you're done! Keep in mind, this "IconCache.db" file that you deleted will come back, only it will now be much smaller in size and of course, make your icons load much faster.
